Becoming a Writer

Jeff Chu was assigned the task of writing, illustrating, printing, and binding his first book as an elementary school student in Berkeley. Later encouraged by a college professor to pursue writing as a journalist, Chu describes part of his vocational journey.

Jeff Chu is an award-winning journalist and author of Does Jesus Really Love Me?—which was featured on the cover of The New York Times Book Review. A contributing writer at Fast Company, he grew up as a journalist at TIME and has also written for The New York Times Magazine, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Travel + Leisure, and numerous other publications. He dreams of writing as well as Roxane Gay, David Grann, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. He loves bacon and his mom’s fried rice. He hates marzipan.
